Questions about Fiona Baker Hypnotherapy

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: FAQ

What does hypnosis feel like?

How we experience hypnosis may not be the same as someone else. Feelings of lightness, heaviness or tingling are all perfectly normal. It is safe to say; we feel very relaxed.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

The majority of people have the ability to go into a light trance. This is absolutely fine for the therapeutic effect of solution focused hypnotherapy to work.

Will I reveal personal secrets?

No, you will remain in total control throughout trance.

Will you make me cluck like a chicken?

No, hypnotherapy is different to stage hypnosis. You will be in complete control and able to accept things that are relevant to you; rejecting those that aren't.

Will I lose consciousness?

No, you will be fully aware of your surroundings at all times. Trance is a lot like daydreaming where you can snap back into reality whenever you choose to.

Is hypnosis dangerous?

No, you will simply be in a relaxed state, in full control at all times.

FAQ: FAQ

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you require will depend on what you are trying to achieve. We will discuss this at the initial consultation, where we will gain a better insight. Solution focused hypnotherapy is a fairly short therapy, but ultimately, you will know when you are where you want to be and when you are finished.

Do I need to do anything?

Yes, solution focused hypnotherapy is not a magic wand. We will be working together, as a therapeutic alliance to help you find your own solutions. You have to be committed to changing some of your behaviours.

Like all things, the more effort you put in, the greater the results.

Is hypnosis the same as meditation and mindfulness?

In a nutshell yes. During trance (hypnosis) we are mentally and physically relaxed, letting our minds drift and wander. We are not really concentrating on what we are thinking about.

We go into trance many times in the day, when we are reading a book, watching the telly, driving, even when we are looking out the window in a day dream. It is all perfectly normal, healthy and good for our brains.

FAQ: FAQ

Is online therapy safe?

I use the Zoom platform for online sessions as each session invite has a unique identification number. This means that after that session has taken place, it then becomes void and invalid.

Two other levels of security are in place to keep you safe; each session is password protected and once in our sessions, I "lock" the room door. That means there are three levels of security to our sessions. Your confidentiality is important to me, as is adherence to GDPR.
